I woke up early just to witness the sunrise at the Baykal lake in Siberia. It's about not being awake in the most beautiful moments in life, not present and not being fully aware of the beauty surrounding us.
What was special about the sunrise was that it was the first time that I woke up early just to see it and that I was on a hitchhiking travel through Asia. I remember how I and three other travelers sat there in silence, waiting for the sun and how one of the girls did a ritual throwing a few drops of vodka in every direction, the sun and then drank it herself. Then one of them sang a bit of "Waiting for the Sun" from the Doors.
That stuck with me.
lyrics
English:
Silence they say
Is made of one single sea
I’m floating, surrounded by its wholeness
Sorrows become the foam of the waves
We’re waiting, looking straight at east
Waiting for the suns first kiss
She warms, she fills
She listens to our serenade
But I’ve been sleeping all of these years
without hearing anything of my breath
We're not awake
we’re not awake at sunrise
what did I say
something was strange
strange when you didn't come home
darling I’m waiting, waited so long
darling can’t you come home
come home, come home, come home
